I must admit that I have been spending more time working on the garden than on the house. After years of volunteering at Garfield Park, I finally have a garden to call my own— and I’m loving it. I’ve planted asparagus, tomatoes, beans, cucumbers, peppers, eggplant, chard, lettuce, cabbage, broccoli, squash, pumpkin, and watermelon. So far I’ve been harvesting Chard, lettuce and a couple of eggplant. Zucchini and yellow squash should be ready soon. The peppers and beans are lagging behind — we’ll see if they produce. The wild black berries and raspberries around the yard are also in season. I even got enough black berries the other day to make a cobbler. Tasty.
